Watch Review: Frederique Constant's Moontimer Watch

For those that know me well, it should come as absolutely no surprise that this is going to be a favorable review. I have a love for astronomical complications – especially moon phases or phase de lunes as they are sometimes called. I think it is a derivative of my passion for astrophysics but in any case, moon phases are cool, even if they are slightly underused in the watchmaking industry.
I want to point out that even though I am partial to this brand of complication, Frederique Constant does an awesome job creating the canvas on which it resides.

Discount Watch Store recently started carrying Frederique Constant, and already the response has been more than favorable.
The case of the Frederique Constant Moontimer FC335V6B6 is made from solid stainless steel, which has been brushed, and polished to an amazing finish. The main crown is textured for easy manipulation of the time. All of this is pretty standard for Frederique Constant though. I love the shade of brown the designers used for the leather strap, which by the way is genuine alligator. I also like that there is no white contrast stitching, which I think would cheapen the look of this dressy gent's watch. The strap is secured using a single folding clasp made from stainless steel. In total, the case measures in at 43mm across, and 11mm high.
The dial is lovely with its matte white finish and rose gold hour markers and hands that go really well with the brown strap. The hands do have lume but I suspect it isn't super bright, which is okay – it is a dress watch after all. At 12 o'clock is a rose gold rimmed aperture showcasing a bit of the movement. Surprisingly, it's not the balance wheel on show this time but what looks like a bit of the gear train and some of the perlaged bridge. Opposite at the 6 position is the moon phase complication, which runs on a 29 ½ day rotation. On the rehaut is an analog date scale that is indicated by a black steel central hand. Covering the dial is a highly scratch resistant sapphire crystal.

The case back is exhibition styled revealing the movement, and the rose gold toned oscillating rotor. To be honest, I wish the movement had a bit more decoration perhaps some Côtes de Genève or even more perlage. The movement Calibre FC-335 is self-winding, and it oscillates at a constant 28,800 VpH (4 Hz). This model, the Frederique Constant FC335V6B6 is water resistant to 100 meters or 10 ATM – much higher than most other dress watches.
